Formed in Digbeth – the heart of Birmingham’s creative scene – vocalist Natalie Jenkins and songwriting partner in crime James Attwood bonded over their penchant for grand music with dark undertones.
Hunger Moon is definitely that, as is their second single ‘Grown’. Following in the wake of ‘Oh Friend’, which debuted earlier in the year, ‘Grown’ is an impressively composed effort for such a new band. Introduced by a simple piano refrain, restrained drumming and guitar work slowly emerge, creating the backbone for a truly beautiful performance by Jenkins. Understated synths simmer beneath the surface as Jenkins shows off her vocal chops, her dextrous voice showing impressive range and impeccable class as she relays tales of longing with a calmness that is truly heart-wrenching.
“‘Grown’ was the second song we wrote together on a cold night way back in December 2017,” shares Attwood. “We knew we were on to something the moment we finished writing it. We also knew that the new found songwriting partnership we had stumbled upon was special and that we wanted to pursue it for all that it was worth. We are super proud of ‘Grown’ and excited to finally share it with you.”
‘Grown’ is out 6th July.
