She’s hit over a million plays on Spotify with her track ‘Better Off’ and is onto her next stage of song galore with ‘Mood’. Emily Vaughn‘s captivating vocals coupled with those super sweet pop melodies have charmed everyone who’s listened, so we asked her about her new music, Vine, and her gorgeous fashion.

We are in love with your new track ‘Mood’. Can you tell us the story of the song and how it felt to produce it?

So happy to hear that! Writing “MOOD” stemmed from dealing with a negative event that continued to present itself in my life—even after I had lost interest. “MOOD” is my way of saying, I don’t care what you do, I don’t care about your negative opinion of me. Do what you need to do, but I’m not in the mood to deal with it.

What’s the reason behind why you chose to release the song on your birthday?

I’ve been waiting a few months to release new music, but when I knew it’d be a late April release I figured it’d be fun to schedule it on my bday to add to the celebration!

‘Better Off’ is without a doubt your most popular song. Did you ever think it’d reach the popularity it did when you made the track?

I honestly had absolutely no idea. At that point, I had only released one song–that came out on the wrong day (lol) so I was pretty happy with a couple of people retweeting it the morning after its release. I didn’t get a confirmed premiere til the day of and was pleasantly surprised when The Fader premiered later that afternoon. It was organically growing so fast, every time I checked the plays I’d do a lil’ happy dance. The next week it was all over all my favourite Spotify playlists and it’s been a fun lil’ ride ever since.

What can your fans expect from your debut EP?

Diversity, vulnerability, bops. I didn’t really confine myself to one specific sound for these songs, I really explored my sound to create the most honest melodies/lyrics/production for every song. Last year was ridiculously hard for me, but 2017 has been the definition of power and independence. The EP speaks for that.

Absolutely adore your fashion sense. Is it important to you to keep up a statement look?

Thank ya! Absolutely. I style everything myself and I’d say it’s a huge part of who I am. I’ve always been a thrifting queen so if you know me you know half my clothes have been worn by other people for the past 50 years and are now altered/being sported by yours truly. (Thanks, Goodwill.)

Your Vine account was very popular, do you miss the site now it’s gone?

I loved Vine. I used to spend hours laughing until my abs hurt scrolling on that damn app. I do think it’s cool to see all the ex-Viners out there doing even bigger things on different platforms, though!

Are there any artists in particular that you draw inspiration from?

So many. I’m always pulling inspiration from other artists like Tove Lo, Ellie Goulding, Charlie XCX, T-Swift & Betty Who.

Will we be seeing you on the UK side of the pond anytime soon for a tour?

Only time will tell, but I hope so! That’d be a total dream.

What tracks have you got in your playlist right now?

-Always Been U – Phangs

-Breathe – Astrid S

-Kissing Strangers – DNCE

(Check my Spotify for more!)

Have you got many plans for the rest of the year?

I’ve got lots of things up my sleeve, babes.
