Following a succession of gigantic singles from the young singer-songwriter, we caught up with Delacey to familiarise ourselves with the rising star
Carving out sultry R&B-tinged pop like its second nature, Delacey has made a lasting impression on us with her first few releases. The young singer-songwriter has gained acclaim for her songwriting efforts for artists such as Halsey and The Chainsmokers, and now looks primed to emerge in her own right.
Her sound is unique and captivating. Grasping at your senses, both catchy and seductive in equal measure. We are envisioning bigger things for Delacey at Born Music, so we had a chat with the artist in order to let you get to know her and love her as much as we do.
Who TF is Delacey?
A sad bitch who likes to sing and dance and make music.
How long have you been making music?
Since I was about 7 years old when I wrote my first song on the piano after my first piano lesson.
Why do you make music?
For therapy mostly. Also to give something to someone who is maybe going through what I am and needs to hear it.
What are your biggest influences?
Everything from Bob Dylan, Elvis, and Stevie Nicks to Stephan Jenkins and the Spice Girls honestly haha
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
Hearing the first song I ever released as an artist on the radio. I cried.
What do you want people to take away from your music?
It’s okay to be weird and insecure and crazy and unstable and happy and all of the emotions.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Happiness. Whatever that means for me. Hearing people sing my lyrics back to me is pretty much that though.
As someone who has initially had a prominent role co-writing for other established artists such as Halsey and Demi Lovato, how do you feel this translates and differs in terms of writing for yourself?
It differs in a way that’s hard to explain. It’s me not playing by any rules and kind of writing in diary versions of songs. Its one hundred percent me and no rules no holding back to impress or please anyone. Just expressing my feelings and thoughts.
You just dropped your latest single ‘Emily‘, can you tell us some more about the track?
I wrote it about my best friend. I think not enough songs are written about friendship and I was feeling extra lovey and emo toward her that day.
With a succession of well received singles under your belt and your star on the rise, what does the future have in store for Delacey?
Lots of more music coming out so soon! And also hoping to play lots of more shows because I love playing live with my band.
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
I would have to say my Mother forever.
