Double-Brit nominee, Tom Walker, gave an exclusive performance at South and City College Birmingham to celebrate the collaboration with Relentless Records.
The music department of one of Birmingham’s most renowned colleges has launched an innovative collaboration with Relentless Records (Sony Music Entertainment Inc.) and to kick it all off, Tom Walker who is currently nominated for two BRIT Awards; British Breakthrough Artist and British Single ‘Leave a Light On’ performed for the students at the Digbeth campus last week.
The music industry has played a unique part in education for a while now with major labels and studios supporting colleges and universities to enable students to pave a better career for themselves by experiencing the business first hand and to get a head start. It allows educational institutes to provide the best possible experience for students in such a competitive industry and that’s exactly what South & City College have done. Not only will students have the chance to rub shoulders with successful and prolific artists such as DJ, record producer, songwriter and musician Naughty Boy, Rapper Headie One and BBC DJ Trevor Nelson but they also get access to masterclasses in London and Birmingham, around the clock advice from industry professionals and a chance to learn everything from starting their own record label to A&R and radio.
When we visited the music department at the College, we saw that the facilities and teaching were second to none and to help us break out of a London centric music scene, we looked to partner with a college that was delivering high quality teaching and learning, alongside excellent results. South & City College was a natural choice.
We are looking forward to building this unique relationship over the coming years and having Tom Walker perform at the College is just the beginning.”
