The Birmingham indie pop band have had a hell of a ride over the past year and have no plans to slow down…
One year ago, we featured West Midlands band RISCAS’ second single ‘Talk Your Mind’ and followed it up with an ‘Introducing’ feature. What followed was a crazy year of gigs and a rapidly-growing fandom.
RISCAS followed up our features with a hell-raising gig at Corby’s The White Hart fresh indie night YUK with fellow Midlands bands Sarpa Salpa & The Jangles. To top it off, they were also interviewed by BBC Introducing West Midlands!
RISCAS kicked it up a notch in July by playing the Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham with AIRWAYS, as well as The Lord Clifden, Birmingham and featuring on the Main Stage at Jimmy’s Festival of Sausages & Beer in Ipswich! With no time to spare, they then headlined the BBC Introducing Stage at Herefordshire’s Lakefest and soon after played the famous Sofar Sounds London.
September was a little quieter but still incredible as they played a gig at Club L’amour, Birmingham with Staffordshire indie four-piece Sugarthief and also featured at Live at Leeds. RISCAS supported upcoming indie foursome PALE WAVES at Hare & Hounds Kings Heath, Birmingham and returned to BBC Introducing West Midlands in October for an all important interview.
The band returned to Sofar Sounds London in November and hit one million streams on Spotify for their two tracks ‘Panic Like Tom’ and ‘Talk Your Mind’! Not only that, they were featured in Spotify’s Best of The Indie List 2017! They supported highly acclaimed indie band AIRWAYS at Thousand Island, London and returned to Hare & Hounds Kings Heath, Birmingham to support Childhood.
On December 1st, RISCAS finally released their third single ‘Right Kinda Day’ which received a spin by Abbie McCarthy on BBC Radio 1! They then once again graced the presence of BBC Introducing West Midlands to play an acoustic session, returned to The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham in support of The Pale White and travelled to Leicester to play The Cookie with JSP.
January was a big month for RISCAS as they embarked on a mini tour, selling out three out of the four shows! They returned to Sofar Sounds London to record a special version of ‘Right Kinda Day’, ‘Panic Like Tom’ hit one million plays on Spotify and they were named as BBC Music Introducing in Hereford & Worcester’s Number 1 ‘One to Watch’! What a month!
Over the next few months, RISCAS played in Nottingham, Birmingham, Brighton, London, Manchester and Derby, and made an appearance on the Trinity Stage at Live at Leeds last month. After such a successful year, RISCAS are now working on their debut EP set for a late summer/autumn release.
