A year of performing, recording and releasing singles. 2018 was a landmark year for the pop duo.
Towards the end of 2017, Birmingham pop duo Real Cool released their synth-drenched ‘Always Her’ to finish off an incredible year. Since then, their music catalogue has increased alongside their international fanbase.
The Brummies began 2018 opening for fellow Birmingham indie pop outfit RISCAS at Birmingham’s famous Sunflower Lounge, where they would go to headline for their biggest show to date just one month later. They performed a couple more times in Birmingham in early 2018, including at the Hare and Hounds with Casey Lowry.
Now in the summer, June was a big month for the boys as they released their next single ‘Surely’ which received its debut radio spin from BBC Introducing West Midlands. Real Cool bopped through the rest of the summer, playing shows at Red Rum, Stafford and on the Crystal Stage at The Fringe at Tramlines.
The duo had a little break from performing in the Autumn, recording new music with which they did not disappoint in October. A show at Suki10c in their hometown saw fans thrilled to hear 2 brand new songs. Plus, they didn’t have to wait long until new music was officially released. Their latest single ‘Wet Hair Weekend’ was released in November, reaching an impressive 5000 streams on Spotify in the first 24 hours! This single marks the beginning of Real Cool’s international stardom as it has a listener base in more countries than any other of their singles. Its accompanying video has also received more views than its predecessors.
Keep an eye out for Real Cool, they’re on the up!
If you’re based near Birmingham, catch them at Dark Horse Moseley with Casey Lowry tomorrow night for their last show of the year!
Real Cool provided us with a more personal insight into their year: “Since the release of ‘Always Her’ our band has really grown up. We have enjoyed the success of the record and built a platform upon its success to release ‘Surely’ and our latest release ‘Wet Hair Weekends’. We’re writing the best music of our lives right now and what’s to come is so exciting for us. We can’t wait to share what we have with the world and for our music to be a part of the lives of people who love this as much as we do.”
