We sat down for an in-depth chat with the multi-talented songstress, SHY Martin.
SHY Martin has been growing on our charts for years whether it’s writing songs with Kygo and Ellie Goulding (‘First Time’) or entering our Top UK 40 charts on ‘The Ocean’ with producer Mike Perry, and many more credits. We sat down to get an in-depth view into SHY’s 2019.
Your debut EP, ‘Overthinking’, came out in December, how has the reaction been going into the new year?
I’ve received a crazy amount of love from my fans. They’ve been super supportive in sharing my music and sending me a lot of messages and personal stories. It’s been a bit unreal and almost hard to take in at some points! But I’m so grateful for the fans I have, they’re the sweetest!
Do you have any plans for even more music in 2019?
My hope is to release even more music in 2019 than I did in 2018. Songwriting is the thing I’m most passionate about. I plan to spend a lot of time in the studio over the next couple of months working on new music, for both myself and other artists.
What goals do you have your eye set on for this year?
One goal is definitely to do a lot of touring, which it seems I’ll already be doing very soon!
I’m super excited to meet all the people who’ve been listening to my music, and to get to know my fans even better this year. Another goal is to write and release more music. Last year I focused a lot on writing for other artists, but this year I also want to focus a bit more on writing for myself.
What effect do you hope to bring to people’s lives through your music?
I want people to connect and relate to my music. The most important part for me is to be genuine with the things I’m writing about, which I hope the listeners feel. I’ve got a lot of messages from people who tell me that my music has helped them through their break-ups which is so amazing.
Do you have any exciting show or festival news?
Actually I’ll be having my first headline tour in Europe this spring which I’m really, really excited about! Other than that I’ll hopefully play at a lot of festivals this summer. Last summer was crazy fun!
If you could tell your younger self something, what would it be?
Treat yourself with the same love you treat others.
Are there any future projects that are a bit ‘out there’, you’re thinking of that would love to be a possibility?
One dream I’ve had since I was a kid is to have one of my songs be the theme song to a movie or series. I don’t really know why, but it would just feel very special!
How do you find juggling home life, to the music life?
To be honest I’ve been quite bad recently at separating my home life from my music life since I don’t really have any other interests and I’m kind of a workaholic ha… But this last year I’ve got a bit better at being at home more and watching series with my boyfriend, visiting my family and meeting friends. It’s still something I need to work on though…
What are you most excited about this year?
Like I mentioned earlier, meeting my fans is probably one of the things I’m most excited about this coming year. And also writing and releasing as much new music as possible!
How do you think your fans will react to you as a band/act this year?
My fans are the sweetest. I hope I’ll be able to share lots of new music with them and hopefully they will like it!
