The East London artist shares her latest slice of progressive soul pop…

Odds are you don’t know Malunga, but it’s time to change that. Let’s get acquainted.

Hailing from East London, the singer-songwriting powerhouse has been plugging away as a musician for a while. Starting as a teenager, Malunga began to take her love of music more seriously when she was chosen to be a resident artist at renowned London venue and community The Roundhouse, where she honed both her songwriting and performing skills before delivering her debut EP Exhibit A in 2015.

Last year’s single ‘Whispers In The Dark’ caught the ear of BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Toddla T, and now Malunga is back with her brand new release ‘Never Let Go’. Citing influences including Swedish alt-pop queen Robyn and the uniqueness of Nelly Furtado, ‘Never Let Go’ is packed with punch. Bassy synths and skittish beats underpin the track, whilst bubbling electronics and Malunga’s dextrous vocal dance upon the surface, meandering from cool composure to soulful coos and never once relinquishing their grip.

Clearly, ‘Never Let Go’ is a declaration of intent, Malunga declaring her independence and intent for all to witness. As Malunga states, ‘Never Let Go’ is about “following your gut instincts and not being afraid of who you are.”

‘Never Let Go’ is available now. Catch Malunga live tonight at London’s Camden Assembly supporting Shae.
