‘Wherever It Goes’ is Mike Simmons’ most mature effort yet
Location: Los Angeles, US
FFO: Darryl Jenifer, Jayden Cobain
Combining the minimalist aesthetic explored on his previous single ‘Blood’ with the three piece rock arrangement of last year’s full length debut ‘Sunburn’, ‘Wherever it Goes’ sees LA’s Mike Simmons with his most mature offering yet. His mournful, world-weary way with words makes both monotony and emotion in the verses, while the touches of distortion in the chorus makes the track memorable. The use of strings in the second verse, and harmonies in the second chorus shows an artist with the certainty and confidence to us the studio to his advantage, even if the track’s lyrics and overall theme suggests a lack of that certainty and confidence.
