Take the ‘Weight’ off your shoulders with Aymee Weir’s new single
Location: London, UK
FFO: Astrid S, Nina Nesbitt, Lorde
From busking on the London Underground to the South Bank, it should perhaps come as no surprise that Aymee Weir takes this authentic musicianship to the studio. Seamlessly blending electronic elements and raw instrumentation, ‘Weight’ is the songstress’ first offering of 2018, and it hints at a powerful new direction for the Worcestershire-born aritst.
Deep synth bass and skippy low-key beats signify the opening, as splashes of acoustic and electric guitar licks spice up the soundscape. It’s a delicious blend of seemingly off-kilter effects and airy piano melodies that lays the intoxicating soundscape for Weir’s vocals; soaring through the chorus and meandering with a sultry haze through the verses.
“As human beings, we all feel pressure to achieve and keep up with the fast paced society we live in,” explains Aymee. “This song is about converting those expectations into inspiration to be the best and happiest version of you.
For me, this was embracing the opportunity I had created for myself as an unsigned artist and busker in London. As I was writing ‘Weight’ I felt like anything was possible, ‘I will climb to the highest tower, it’s now or never. So heavy, but i’m ready.'”
