Less Bunnies, More Butchering. Check out The Fontaines’ ‘Playboys’
Location: Los Angeles
FFO: Angel Olsen, Grimes
Los Angeles indie punk duo, The Fontaines, just dropped ‘Playboys’ – the lead single off the upcoming EP of the same name (out November 17th). This is a dirty, scuzzy and fuzzy track, which is led at 100mph by a charging bass riff which sounds like ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ with added adrenaline. Distorted guitars cut through the mix and the vocals are sublime. Add to this a music video which makes Reservoir Dogs look practically PG and you have a winner of a track.
The Playboys EP serves in part as a comparison to Playgirls (released earlier this year). Commenting on the song Hank Fontaine noted: “‘Playboys’ is about the sort of men you meet in LA. We knew Kansas would be the perfect director to shoot a video for a song that’s this steeped in anger and frustration because we’ve seen her awesome work for Troma Entertainment in the past and she has a real great sense of humor and a good eye.”
