If there is one thing that Nordic countries do well, it is making intriguing and interesting pop. Channelling the disco-pop sound of Sigrid and France’s Christine and the Queens, Finnish electro-pop group feelsbutwithcaps have burst back with their latest outing ‘Drains’. Never has such a melancholy sentiment felt so euphoric.
Written on New Year’s Day after a party, the song was inspired by the film Lion. “You know that feeling when all of your friends are couples and when they leave you’re left alone in your apartment?” reveal the band. “It was also soon after seeing the film ‘Lion’ where the main character is searching for his birth mother.” The film inspired the lyric ”How long are you gonna stay lost? ‘Cause it drains me.” With bright synth work at play, toe tapping rhythms and a sing-a-long chorus to boot, ‘Drains’ is an addictive earworm of a track that feels perfect for the summer, but is reflective and bittersweet.
‘Drains’ is available now.
