Only 6 days to go until Bestival…Who’s excited? We caught up with Mellah to talk all things Bestival, new music and his tips to survive the weekend!

Do you have a favourite track from your EP or a song that means the most to you?

They each mean something to me but numb is the closest to my heart.

We see that you have recently released a music video for ‘Cigarette Lighter’, what was your inspiration for the video?

Watching people on trains stare at their phones.

You’re playing at Bestival this year, looking forward to it?

Looking forward to it yes.

Is there anyone you’re particularly excited to see at the festival?

Excited to see w.i.t.c.h, Nilufer Yanya, Biig Piig and Songhoy Blues

If you could collaborate with any artist on the line-up, who would it be and why?

Probably Nilufer, like her music

What can people expect from your set?

Us to play songs we’ve written and rehearsed

How does playing festivals compare to your own gigs? Do you have a preference?

It’s pretty different, festivals people are generally on one and for a small band like us without much following, it’s often hard to feel engaged.. they often only file in when you play the rowdy sets which isn’t really what I’m into.

Have you got many other gigs lined up for us to get excited about?

We’re mainly just at festivals this summer (board masters, beat herder and a few in Europe) until later in the year when we’re going to do a mini UK tour, probably around September time.

What are your top festival survival tips?

Water.. this year… shit loads of it.

And finally, for those lucky enough to be going to Bestival, in a few words, why should they come to see you play? Think of this as new music speed dating, no pressure, 30 seconds, GO.

Gosh the pressure… Am I supposed to time myself? Here goes….. If you like my music come and see us play it to you.

Make sure to check out Mellah’s set at Bestival!
