“Set against a backdrop of the iconic Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank, bluedot combines a truly stellar line-up of music with a ground-breaking programme of live science experiments, expert talks and immersive artworks.”
This year, the weekend of July 19th through to the 22nd marks the 3rd year of Bluedot’s groundbreaking and award-winning interstellar festival, that breaks the barriers between science, entertainment, culture and technology in a four-day trip to another planet.
Who better to headline a festival that celebrates all-things science than the genre-redefining The Chemical Brothers? Bringing their sort-after ‘full live show’ amidst the unique and breath-taking setting of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank. Joining them are returning Bluedot-favourites The Flaming Lips.
More acts include Future Islands, Public Service Broadcasting, Gary Numan and many, many more. But it’s not all music – the festival features talks from leading scientists and thinkers, including Libby Jackson, Dallas Campbell and Tim O’Brien. See the full line-up here.
And if that’s not enough to pique your interest, the festival opens with Blue Planet In Concert with the Hallé Orchestra, a visual spectacle that “combines live music against a backdrop of remarkable footage from the original Blue Planet 2001 television series produced by the acclaimed BBC Natural History Unit.”
“Heading into our third year we really wanted to go above and beyond and we’re absolutely delighted to announce Blue Planet in Concert for our new Thursday slot” said festival director, Ben Robinson:
“Our mission is to not only erode the boundaries between science, culture, art and technology but to also highlight the beauty and fragility of our planet Earth, and what a better way to achieve this by opening proceedings with such a remarkable and enlightening spectacle. It’s going to be truly incredible and a real festival highlight. We can’t wait!”
