Following the release of their new track ‘Get What You Give’ we had a chat with The Curious Incident and… they even made us a playlist!
‘Get What You Give’ is such a good track! Can you tell us how the song came to be?
It all started with a whistle. Then that whistle helped me find the underlying chords and the lyrics followed to tell a ‘sorry, not sorry’ story of a breakup and being better off without that person. It’s all about having “the moves that make you rue the day you moved from my side”. We were on tour in South Africa and had a few extra days to go into a cool studio in Cape Town (Popsicle) to get the track recorded and then finished the mix with Ryan Gorringe (who produced a lot of High Tyde’s stuff).
You’ve described yourselves as “the spice of hot sauce” and “the nice of lemonade”. Care to elaborate?
It used to be “the spice of Jerk Chicken” but then I became vegan! We cook up our music with different flavours to get those moreish dishes on the table – yum!
The Curious Incident is quite a, well, curious name for a band. Where did the name come from?
There was an incident but for legal reasons, we are not at liberty to elaborate.
Since your track has quite the surfer vibe, are you big surfers or at least want to be?
Diaz has got some wave skills. Kairo has some belly-flop skills. We’re very yin-yang. We make music to make land-lovers want to surf. Me especially.
What would be your dream venue to play?
Red Rocks in the US would be mindblowing. Glastonbury goes without saying but I guess I just said it.
Which artists are you really into right now?
Sundara Karma, Model Aeroplanes, Glass Animals, Royal Blood, Too Many T’s, JP Cooper and loads more. Found some new beauties through Born Music too!
What have you got planned for the rest of the year?
We’ve been booked to play Popronde in The Netherlands! It’s like the Dutch SXSW, except it’s in 40 different cities around the country between September and November! We’ll hopefully be playing most of the dates so that’s incredibly exciting. We are also set to release a brand spanking new EP in October which will include an instant download of the first single from the end of August so follow us on our socials to be the first to pre-save on Spotify and pre-order on iTunes. There is also a UK tour in the works which we’re beyond stoked for!
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for getting on (surf)board. It’s a vibe
