It’s that time of year again! Independent Venue Week is back, and it has come a long way since it’s 18-venue-launch back in 2013. Check out the highlights from Scotland, Northern Ireland and North East England.

Scotland

The Scottish leg of IVW will showcase some amazing Scottish talent. Hosting Celtic Connections Festival, The Hug & Pint in Glasgow has acts on every single night of IVW! The first night of the week, 29th January, will feature founding member of The Vaselines, Eugene Kelly, who will be blessing us with both Vaselines classics as well as solo material. The 1st February will see Glasgow singer-songwriter and talented poet, Declan Welsh, with an eclectic mix of his talented friends to permeate your evening with music and poetry alike.

Aberdeen tiki bar, Krakatoa, will also be playing an important role during IVW, hosting two consecutive events. The first event on the 2nd February is one for all those modern rock lovers out there, featuring a trio of great bands: punk band Heavy Drapes, heavy electronic band, Dear John and rock band, Wolves In Leggings. The following night, the rock theme continues, presenting Bloodlines and support.

Other venues featured in Scotland include Beat Generator in Dundee and Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh.

Northern Ireland

Sadly, Northern Ireland only features once during IVW, so let’s make it count! The Blackbox in Belfast will be representing this part of the UK and is privileged to host the opening night of IVW and Marshall Records Presents: For The Record Tour. King Creature and Reigning Days will be headlining with special guests, and will tour across the UK, playing every night of IVW.

North East

IVW will come to the North East for three consecutive nights, between the 2nd-4th February. Kicking off at The Georgian Theatre, Stockton-O-Tees, the first night will present an emerging talent showcase, First Wave Volume 1, headlined by Guildford punk rock band Blackwaters and alternative northern band, LIFE. The second night at the same venue will feature a dreamy acoustic concert by Nine Below Zero’s founding members Dennis Greaves & Mark Feltham.

The 4th of February and final night in the North East will be held at Newcastle’s intimate music venue, Jumpin’ Jacks. The rocking Glasgow three-piece BABY STRANGE will headline the night with special guests, Rascalton.
