Tired of running in ‘Circles’ trying to find your next favourite tune? Don’t worry… we’ve done that for you.
Babeheaven – Circles
Let’s kick off this fine Friday with a little bit of Babeheaven. The West London duo have just released their new single ‘Circles,’ and it’s the perfect sultry smooth scorcher to start your weekend off right. Pulsing R&B groove meets wistful alt-pop melodies, with a little dash of Cocteau Twins psych-magic.
The Ninth Wave – Half Pure
Glasgow’s The Ninth Wave have followed up their latest EP Flesch with a storming new single in the form of ‘Half Pure.’ As their first offering of 2019, it hints at a powerful start to the new year, channeling all that trademark Ninth Wave magic with maybe a little helping of classic White Lies.
Des Rocs – Outta My Mind
New York City native Des Rocs makes his bombastic return to our Friday Favourites, this time with new single ‘Outta My Mind.’ Still on a quest to revitalise the grandiosity of rock ‘n’ roll, still thumping hot riffage, and still needs to be turned up to 11, ‘Outta My Mind’ has all the makings of an absolute banger. Yes then.
FEVER 333 – One of Us
Taken from their latest album STRENGTH IN NUMB333RS, ‘One of Us’ is a no-holds-barred showcase for everything FEVER 333 are about. Visceral anti-political lyricism, massive riffs with a little electronica chucked in, blasting beats and a guttural delivery that’ll give even the most hardened metal veterans a run for their money. Think a modern, post-hardcore Rage Against the Machine, and you’re getting there. All compliments intended.
Sofi Tukker – Mi Rumba
Let’s switch up the levels in a way only Sofi Tukker really can. Their latest single ‘Mi Rumba’ is more than just a little bit saucy, calling on producer ZHU for a collab that seems to bring out the best of both. It gives a whole new meaning to a dirty beat, and it’s absolutely brilliant.
The Japanese House – Maybe You’re the Reason
Looking for something a little more chill? Have no fear, Amber Bain is here, and her latest single ‘Maybe You’re The Reason’ is a lush cornucopia of dream-pop stylee and smooth-sailing electronica. Originally written as an ode to feeling depressed, the track took on a warm new meaning: “I thought about my girlfriend at the time, and how maybe loving someone is the reason you live? It’s the cheesiest chorus ever, but I think it needed it.”
LOVA – My Name Isn’t
“It is nothing new that us women are tired… of always adjusting for men who cannot keep their hands and mouths under control.” Rising Swedish songstress LOVA makes her 2019 return with a scathing new single, tackling toxic masculinity head on in a massive pop anthem. It’s got power, confidence, charisma, and the lyric “we don’t want your dick pics” pretty much speaks for everyone, right?
Call Me Loop – Silly Boy
Friday always calls for a dose of sugary pop, and Call Me Loop‘s latest single ‘Silly Boy’ is just what the doctor ordered. Bouncy bop beats and minimalist synthwork combine with odd-ball percussion effects, building to an anthemic pseudo-synthwave hook. In short, it’s deliciously pop and deliciously different.
Mabel – Don’t Call Me Up
Last but certainly not least, for a closing fiery dose of potent trip-pop we turn to rising songstress Mabel. ‘Don’t Call Me Up’ follows a hell of a year for the UK artist, ending with a sold out tour and a nomination for 2019’s British Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards. And this track shows exactly why.
