This week’s Friday Favourites is a true rollercoaster, so strap in and enjoy the ride.

This week we are blessed with a new offering from South African-born, Australian-based singer and actor Troye Sivan. In true Troye style, ‘Bloom’ attracts your body to the dance floor. The captivating beat, catchy melody and seductive vocals are a sure hit for Friday night playlists.

Taking a darker turn, Black Honey are back with their first single of the year, ‘Bad Friends’. Opting for a more produced sound, the Brighton four-piece make use of grungy synth and guitar riffs, a dominant drum beat and atmospheric vocal lines and stings to create this particularly attitude-ridden track. As they announce the release of their long-awaited album, ‘Bad Friends’ acts as a precursor of what’s to come. The lo-fi accompanying video features singer Izzy B Phillips and her bad friends in a series of bedroom monologues.

You know that feeling when an artist just can’t seem to do wrong? Well, Dagny is doing just that. Her latest single ‘That Feeling When’ consists of more melancholy themes compared to her previous offerings, revealing a passion in her voice we didn’t know existed.

The cheeky Yorkshire YungBlud released his critically acclaimed debut EP in January, however he clearly doesn’t like to keep us hanging and has released new material in the form of the quirky ’21st Century Liability’. Brimming with attitude and incorporating screams, and noises that don’t sound too dissimilar to my squeegee, this track is YungBlud all over. Fans will not be disappointed.

On the other end of the spectrum, Zuzu has dropped the fun and feel-good ‘Beauty Queen’. A catchy chorus, sunny instrumentation, and a Liverpudlian accent makes ‘Beauty Queen’ a signature Zuzu track. Make sure to check her out at one of her tour dates over the coming weeks.

To finish off this week’s edition of Friday Favourites is Aquilo‘s new single ‘Seagull’, perfect for a chill down after the preceding rollercoaster. Taken off the B-side of Aquilo’s ii album, ‘Seagull’ incorporates gentle guitar atmospheres, upbeat vocal melodies and a captivating beat; the perfect soundtrack as you drive off into the sunset.
